Aside from being the most sought-after commodity in the world after crude oil, there is no secret in the culture that has developed around coffee. Ritualistic, somewhat religious or just plain necessity…coffee has become synonymous for bringing people together. In South Africa, we call this ‘
community’, or Ubuntu, and it is a way of life for our country and its people. “I am, because we are”.
One of the central elements of importance in rural South African culture, is our cattle. They represent stability, hope, status, abundance, security, and success. These uniquely beautiful animals are traditionally held in the central area of a homestead to keep them safe from harm – they are prized and revered by their owners.
‘Sanga’ is the collective name for the indigenous cattle of sub-Saharan Africa, after which our authentic coffee brand was inspired and created. Sanga Coffee is a celebration of the culture of community and is our gift to you…one that we hope conveys the beauty of our land and its richly diverse people (and animals). It is in keeping with the spirit of Ubuntu, with a modern-day twist. Enjoy!
